This sweet Evanston family welcomed a beautiful baby girl and I was pretty thrilled when they reached out to schedule a newborn lifestyle session. People often ask me how old their baby should be for a newborn session and honestly I don’t have a concrete answer because I think there is sweetness and magic to be captured throughout those first few months. I don’t do the perfectly posed thing (which is totally cool if that’s what you’re into and some photographers do it SO well) – as a lifestyle family photographer I err towards the side of natural “poses” and don’t need your little guy sleeping the entire time. So, “when to schedule” becomes more about what you want your images to show. The super fresh babes might sweetly sleep their whole session and only wake up for a moment to cry or look around with that “where in the heck am I” face and the three month old babe may be looking at you with smiles and more of a heightened awareness. This precious little one, Elis, was around six weeks for her newborn session and she slept, cried, ate, and looked right at me with those beautiful brown eyes. So, the answer to “when to schedule” is really up to you because I love all the ages and for me it’s about documenting the connections and giving you some beautiful images to remember what this time in your life felt like. Like, the way it felt when she was in your arms, the way her little cheek felt against yours and the chaos, but also the love you felt when your sons collapsed on your lap and snuggled up to their baby sister. This is what it’s all about.
Thank you to Meagan, Luis Pedro, the wonderfully energetic Ilan and Josep and sweet little Elis for welcoming me into your home to capture the beauty that is your family.
